Willow Plates

fused glass plates
These kiln-formed glass plates were commissioned for The Edinburgh Food Studio, a restaurant centred on foraging, seasonality, and local produce. Each plate is individually shaped, with a soft French-vanilla ground intended to support the presentation of food rather than dominate it.
The pattern is created using willow leaves and silver leaf placed between the layers of glass during firing. The leaves burn away and the silver on them remains to react with the chemistry of the glass, leaving delicate, organic traces formed through heat, chance, and contact. The plates makes a nod to willow pattern pottery, reimagined through glass and foraged plant material, and reflects the restaurant’s attention to landscape, process, and impermanence.
