Ice Flow Cutlery Rests

fused glass
This set of clear glass cutlery rests was commissioned for the opening celebration of a distillery in the Scottish Highlands. The forms are inspired by ice flows: fractured, translucent, and quietly dynamic, catching and refracting light across the table.
Individually made, each piece carries small variations in edge, thickness, and surface, echoing natural processes of freezing and thawing. Designed primarily for use at a single communal event, the rests sit at the threshold between ceremony and utility, inviting touch without demanding attention. The work reflects on landscape, temperature, and time, and on how modest, functional objects can hold a sense of place and occasion through material and making.
