Fighting Swans

porcelain and glass mosaic

This mosaic shows two swans locked in a moment of aggression—wings flared, necks twisted, everything in motion. Swans are often held up as symbols of grace and love, but they’re also territorial, intense, and sometimes violent. I was interested in that contradiction—how something so beautiful can also be fierce. The image is made entirely from small, hand-cut tiles. I wanted the movement to ripple through the surface, like water disturbed by the fight. It’s a piece about tension, boundaries, and the uneasy edge between connection and conflict. Up close, it’s all fragmentation and chaos; from a distance, the forms settle into something recognisable—almost serene, but not quite.
